The Significant Investor Visa (SIV) is a 5-year temporary visa available to individuals willing to make a minimum investment of AUD 5 million in Australia. This visa aims to attract high-net-worth individuals who can contribute substantial funds to the Australian economy. Here are the key details and advantages of the SIV:

Significant Investment Visa Eligibility and Application Process

Nomination: Applicants must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government.

Expression of Interest (EOI): To receive a nomination, applicants must lodge an EOI through the SkillSelect system.

Location: Applicants can be either in Australia or overseas when lodging their application.

If in Australia: They must hold a Substantive Visa or a Bridging A, B, or C visa.

Significant Investment Visa Investment and Residency Pathway

Investment Requirement: Applicants must invest AUD 5 million in complying Australian investments, and maintain the investment for at least 4 years.

Permanent Residency: After 4 years, applicants may be eligible to apply for the Business Innovation & Investment (Residence) Subclass 888 visa, which provides permanent residency.

Advantages of the Significant Investment Visa (SIV)

👉 No Upper Age Limit: Applicants of any age may apply.

👉 No English Language Requirement: There is no mandatory English proficiency requirement for this visa.

👉 No Points Test: Applicants do not need to meet points test criteria, making this visa more accessible.

👉 Flexible Residence Requirement: To be eligible for the Subclass 888 permanent visa, applicants must meet a lower residence requirement:

✔️ Main Applicant: Must reside in Australia for at least 40 days per year.

✔️ Spouse: Alternatively, a spouse may fulfill this requirement by residing in Australia for 180 days per year.

Significant Investment Visa (SIV) – Subclass 188C General Requirements

If you were invited to apply for the Significant Investment Visa (SIV) on or after 1 July 2021, you must make a complying significant investment of at least AUD 5 million and maintain it for the duration of your provisional visa. The investment must be distributed as follows:

👉 Venture Capital and Growth Private Equity Funds: At least AUD 1 million must be invested in funds that focus on start-ups and small private companies.

👉 Managed Funds for Emerging Companies: At least AUD 1.5 million must be invested in approved managed funds that invest in emerging companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.

👉 Balancing Investment: The remaining AUD 2.5 million must be invested in managed funds that can include:

✔️ Australian Stock Exchange-listed companies

✔️ Australian corporate bonds or notes

✔️ Annuities

✔️ Commercial real estate (Direct residential real estate investments are prohibited; however, limited indirect investment via managed funds is allowed.)

Additionally, investments must not be used as security or collateral for any loan.

Subclass 888 Visa Requirements (Permanent Residency Pathway)

To qualify for permanent residency through the Subclass 888 visa, applicants must:

👉 Spend 40 Days Per Year: The applicant must have spent at least 40 days per year in Australia on the Significant Investor Visa for each of the last 4 years.

👉 State or Territory Sponsorship: Applicants must be sponsored by an Australian state or territory government.
